Mires (Moires), is a busy commercial town with 6500 inhabitants. It lies in the center of the Messara Plain and is the largest town in the area. From this town are many crossroads to Matala, Lendas and Kali Limenas.
On Saturdays there is a big market in the mainstreet which attracts lots of people from the surrounding area. Mires has all amenities like banks, a post office, super markets, tavernas, a medical center, a police station and all kinds of shops. There are also a number of Byzantine churches in the area, but no archaeological finds since the village was founded in the middle of the nineteenth century. There is however a Venetian fountain and one very old house.
